After a speech on domestic issues ranging including tax regulations on churches, he finished on the subject of terrorism.
POTUS honored the 6-year-old son of Marine SGT. Christopher Jacobs, named Christian. He said SGT. Jacobs "lies in section 60" where the fallen from recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan are buried at Arlington. (I have asked the Pentagon for more information on SGT. Jacobs. I am guessing at the spelling of Christian's name.)
"That 6 year old stood strong and tall and proud in front of the commander in chief just as his dad would have wanted him to be. It's extraordinary," the President said. Christian had been on stage earlier and now seemed to be in the crowd near the president's podium.
The president then pivoted to the subject of terrorism.
"We cannot allow radical Islamic terrorism to spread in this country," he said to applause. "There can be no coexistence with this violence."
"Together we can crush the horrors of terrorism."
He also added:
"Whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red blood. We all salute the same American flag," and we all worship the same almighty god, he said.
He stopped speaking at 1:03pm.
We arrived back at the White House at 1:16pm.
I will listen back and transcribe some of the domestic portion of the speech back at the White House. As always, please check against the transcript.
By the way, Dr. Ralph Reed didn't sing the national anthem. Apologies for the misleading phrasing of the Pool #3
