Spicer gave an eight-minute gaggle toward the end of the one-hour flight. He appeared in the press cabin with Kellyanne Conway, who listened in on the conversation behind him but did not say anything. Spicer spent three minutes reviewing the president’s speech at the Coast Guard Academy and previewing an event this afternoon featuring the Vice President in honor of Asian American heritage month. He spent fewer than 5 minutes answering questions.
Spicer did not directly answer whether Trump supports Comey testifying before Congress. “The president is confident in the events that he has maintained and he wants the truth in these investigations to get to the bottom of the situation. There are two investigations going on in the House and Senate and he wants to get to the bottom of this.”
Spicer said that: “The president has been very clear that the account that was published is not an accurate description of how the event occurred. I’m not going to give any other comment on that.”
Would Potus support Russians releasing a transcript of Trump’s talk with Lavrov and was the WH aware the conversation was being recorded? “I’m not aware of anything of that.” He said: “We’ve put out a statement very clearly the president does not believe that is an accurate representation of that meeting.”
He reiterated that the Secretary of State, national security adviser and deputy NSA put out statements that “were very clear of their account of that meeting.”
(Netanyahu call yesterday with Potus) “That call was purely logistical trip preparation.”
He declined to comment on the video showing Turkish bodyguards for president Erdogan roughing up protesters in Washington yesterday, noting only that the State Department put out a statement.
As Spicer reentered the forward cabin pool could see the television tuned to Fox News which aired the gaggle sound live.
AF1 touched down just after 3 p.m.
Potus disembarked and walked to Marine One for flight back to the White House.
