News: Trump made public remarks about the canceled bilateral meeting with Mexican President Pena Nieto.

“I made clear to the government of Mexico that NAFTA has been a terrible deal, a total disaster for the United States from the inception. It’s costing us as much as $60 billion a year from Mexico alone in a trade deficit. You say, ‘Who negotiates these deals?’”

He notes factories closing down.

Trump said he and EPN agreed jointly to cancel the bilat. “Unless Mexico is going to treat the United States fairly with respect, such a meeting would be fruitless and I want to go a different route. We have no choice.”

Trump delivered his remarks in a large ballroom filled with lunch tables and a packed crowd that applauded numerous times. On stage from left to right with Potus were GOP’s House and Senate leadership, along with VP Pence. From left to right: Steve Scalise, Kevin McCarthy, John Cornyn, Mitch McConnell, Trump speaking at the lectern, Pence and Ryan.

Trump spoke with the help of teleprompters  and opened by talking about how he won Pennsylvania despite doubts that he would do so. He listed a number of the executive actions and steps his administration has taken in the first week.

He chided Democrats for slowing down confirmation of his nominees and said he doesn’t have his Commerce Sec. yet and British PM May wants to talk trade tomorrow. “I’ll have to handle it myself,” he said, drawing chuckles from the crowd.

Trump’s remarks were livestreamed. He wrapped up at 1:40 p.m. and the crowd stood and applauded. Trump shook hands with the folks on stage. Pool ushered out quickly to motorcades. Holding in vans as Potus reportedly does private Q and A.
