Good morning from a crisp and cool Buenos Aires. Vice President Pence departed his hotel at 10:55 am local en route to the Metropolitan Cathedral, the seat of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires. He arrived at the cathedral about 11 am local.

The vice presidential motorcade drove along one of this city's grand boulevards, with hundreds of people lining the streets to take pictures.

The cathedral, which dates to the 16th century, stands on Plaza de Mayo and was the church of Pope Francis (then Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio) during his tenure as archbishop here.

VP Pence is planning to lay a wreath at the cathedral to commemorate Jose de San Martin, an Argentine general and the chief leader of South America's fight for independence from the Spanish Empire.
