Trump tells DHS employees: "We are going to restore the rule of law"

Trump stressed the DHS law enforcement mission, and said the executive orders he signed to build a wall on the Mexican border and to step up internal public safety and ending sanctuary cities will save lives, jobs and money.

Toward the end of the 15 to 16 minute speech, interrupted frequently by applause, Trump recognized families of people slain by those here illegally.

Trump told the audience, which included many DHS employees, that he was gong to allow them to do their jobs when for too long they haven't been able to. "And its about to change. And I am very happy about it and I know your're happy about it," he said.

"A nation without borders is not a nation. Beginning today, the United States of America gets back control as it gets back its borders," he said.

Trump promised to increase the border patrol, and said he just signed two executive orders that will save thousands of lives, millions of jobs and millions and millions of dollars.

But he promised to work with Mexico to improve relations with Mexico.

Following the less than 10-minute ceremony for the ceremonial swearing in of the new DHS secretary and the signing of the wall and public safety executive orders, Trump went on a tour of the facilities that lasted about an hour and 15 minutes.

A couple of notes.

Pence administered a ceremonial swearing in of Kelly as DHS secretary. As Pence noted, Kelly was sworn in using a Marine Bible. Kelly was sworn in officially on Friday.

Trump recognized ICE and CBP agents before signing both orders.

The Trump speech at the end of his tour of the DHS facility was being broadcast on CSPAN.
